What is Affiliate Marketing?

Several months ago I decided to spend my spare time working on affiliate marketing. Affiliate marketing is the concept of driving traffic to other companies offers in the hopes of making a profit. This activity takes a lot of work and effort. It is not something that people can pick up and make bunches of money right from the start. It is very similiar to my professional career and it involves a lot of trial and error and a bunch of testing. What works for one offer might not work for another. There are many people out there that claim to make a lot of money with very little effort, but this is simply not the case. Chances are they are trying to sell you something in order for them to make a profit. Affiliate marketing is a lot of work. It is also true that there are great rewards possible. I estimate that it will take several years of persistent work in order to be successful. This blog will catalog my journey through lots of trial and effort, persistence, and patience.

My Professional Career

My professional career started in the Retail world. I was a Manager for J.C. Penney for 5 years. I was responsible for everything from ordering merchandise to unloading trucks. I decided that I wanted to get out of the retail world due to the long working hours and low pay. So I got into the Information Systems arena in the world of Software Testing. My career has moved through several companies and several different states. I have worked for EDS, eMIS, SAIC, CACI, and I am currently working for CenturyTel as a QA Manager. I have lived in many places including South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Texas, Alabama, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and Costa Rica. That is just a little bit about me.
